Lescott, ex-Man City defender, clarifies Haaland’s choice of Drogba’s goal celebration. Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott explained why Erling Haaland copied Chelsea legend Didier Drogba’s goal celebration. Haaland did this during Man City’s Champions League win over Young Boys. He scored twice, helping Man City advance to the knockout stages.
Lescott revealed that Haaland recreated Drogba’s celebration because Drogba had asked him in Paris to do so the next time he scored for Man City. This request came after Drogba presented an award at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, where Haaland was recognized as the second-best men’s player in the world.
Lescott, while speaking to TNT Sports, said, “At the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Drogba and Gary Lineker asked him about his loyalties and if he could dedicate a celebration the next time he scored. So, he dedicated that celebration to Didier, which was a special moment for him.”
Didier Drogba is highly regarded as one of the best strikers to ever play in the Premier League, having scored 164 goals during his two stints with Chelsea. His most famous celebration involved running to the corner flag and gesturing with both hands towards the ground.
