
At the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Nigeria’s Super Eagles upset host team Ivory Coast on Thursday evening.
The Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé hosted the game.
In the first half, neither Nigeria nor Ivory Coast were able to score.
Victor Osimhen squandered a golden chance to give Jose Peseiro’s side the lead in the first half as he blasted the ball over the bar following a fine through cross from Samuel Chukwueze.
However, in the second half, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong gave Nigeria the lead via a superb penalty.
Ultimately, the Super Eagles prevailed 1-0 in the game.
With four points from two games, Peseiro’s team now sits second in Group A as a result of the outcome.
Having played the same number of games, Ivory Coast has three points, good for third place.
