Senegal Claim First AFCON Win Against Cameroon In 34 Years, Seal Round Of 16 Place

Teranga Lions of Senegal, the reigning champions, defeated Cameroon 3-1 in Group C on Friday to go to the AFCON 2023 round of 16.

It is now back-to-back wins for Senegal who hammered Gambia 3-0 in their group opener

This is Senegal’s first AFCON win against Cameroon since the 1990 edition in Algiers

In the last three tournament matchups (1992, 2002, and 2017), Cameroon has won.

Andre Onana, the first choice of Manchester United, returned to action for Cameroon following his exclusion from the 1-1 draw against Guinea.

In the sixteenth minute, Smaila Sarr gave Senegal the lead when he wrong-footed Onana in goal with a low drive inside the box that deflected off Zambo Anguissa.

Jackson held off his marker and laid the ball to Idrissa Gueye who put in a low cross which Mane slotted past Onana
