Pasuma: Why I gave up football to pursue music

Wasiu Alabi Odetola, better known by his stage name Pasuma, is a seasoned singer from Nigeria. He started out as a football player but gave up to focus on music after his country’s squad was left out of the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship in China.

In a recent interview, the Fuji musician revealed this to Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo.

He claimed that once his World Cup dream fell through, the worldwide success of Wasiu Ayinde’s 1984 record “Talazo ’84” encouraged him to pursue music right away.

Talazo ’84” is the album that Alhaji King Wasiu Ayinde released in 1984,” Pasuma stated. The album was widely available everywhere.

Since I played football, I made the decision to pursue a career in music. CODAK 85, the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship, was invited to me. Four players, including me, were chosen from a club in Shogunle.

“I regretfully chose not to play in the World Cup, which is when I decided to pursue a career in music.
