Mr Obi was of the opinion that the nation must not rush to implement the Oronsaye Report just because those that will be directly affected are mostly civil servants.
In order to save expenses and increase efficiency, the Goodluck Jonathan administration commissioned the Oronsaye Report, a thorough evaluation of all government agencies and parastatals. The report suggested combining or eliminating unnecessary entities.
Mr. Obi claimed in a message released on his official X handle that the nation’s current economic problems necessitate a deliberate attempt to reduce government spending.
Mr. Obi acknowledged that Tinubu made the right decision, but he also pointed out that the government needs to do more than just put the report into action. It needs to reduce the expense of governance overall.
“Now that the Report’s implementation has been deemed necessary, the government ought to stop wasting our limited resources on pointless matters and direct those monies into the vital fields of health, education, and uplifting the poor,” Mr. Obi argued.
Mr. Obi reiterated his call, stating that while the report’s implementation is long overdue, it is still a positive development as long as it is guided by three fundamental principles: significantly reducing the cost of governance; ii) getting rid of duplication of duties to ensure that they are assigned to the right people; and iii) boosting effectiveness and efficiency, which will boost productivity.
