The suspected rebels in the region were the target of the Tuesday morning bombing, which was purportedly executed by a Nigerian military warplane. But according to reports, the strike destroyed some 100 animals, including sheep, donkeys, cattle, and camels, and killed 10 persons and injured six more.

According to Usman Manuga, a resident, “We saw jets flying overhead after the Fajr (early morning) prayer. Bombs were dropped a short while later, and everything caught fire.

To assist the impacted households, the governor declared that 100 bags of food supplies and ₦20 million in relief cash will be provided.

The impacted communities are close to the Surame desert, which is thought to be a Lakurawa rebel stronghold.

In recent years, this tragedy is the ninth unintentional military airstrike against civilians in Nigeria. Past occurrences consist of:

December 3, 2023: In Tudun Biri, Kaduna State, a drone strike killed 85 worshippers commemorating Maulud.

Ten civilians were killed in an airstrike in Yunusari, Yobe State, in September 2021.

January 2017: Many civilians were killed in a military attack on a camp for refugees in Rann, Borno State.

The community was reassured by Governor Aliyu that measures are being made to fully investigate the incident and stop future incidents of the same kind.

The survivor and other impacted locals are still struggling with their unfathomable loss and are hoping that steps will be made to protect civilians while military activities are underway.
