In her Grammy-winning song of the same name, R&B artist Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage as Tems, has expressed gratitude to veteran singer Seyi Sodimu for letting her sample his 1997 hit song “Love Me Jeje.

At the 67th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Love Me Jeje’ took home the Best African Music Performance trophy, defeating the songs “Tomorrow” by Yemi Alade, “MMS” by Asake & Wizkid, “Sensational” by Chris Brown with Davido & Lojay, and “Higher” by Burna Boy.

Tems thanked Sodimu for authorizing the sample on Monday while celebrating her Grammy victory on her X account.

She called Sodimu’s “Love Me Jeje” a “timeless classic,” emphasizing how happy she is that the song is finally getting recognition because of her version.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the amazing @seyimusic for helping to promote and clear his original song, Love me Jeje. For me, it has revived the original song, and I’m happy that it is receiving flowers today. A timeless masterpiece.
